Electronic music and Sámi joik come together in Ávus – a North Sámi word that can mean both space and happiness.
Ávus – the music project that grew into a tour and eventually became a band.
We are a band! What an amazing feeling.
Ávus consists of Inga Máret Gaup Juuso, Jonas Knutsson, Jörgen Stenberg, Mikael Emsing, and Andreas Estensen. Mikael, Jonas, and Andreas had worked together before in other contexts, and when Norrbottensmusiken approached Jonas with the idea of exploring new musical collaborations under their wing, he chose to reach out to Jörgen and Inga Máret. Ávus was born.
In the spring of 2025, we embarked on a tour performing in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. During the summer and autumn, we also performed at venues and festivals in Markomeannu, Kiruna, and Piteå. The journey culminated in the recording of an album, scheduled for release in the summer of 2026.
